Jo Malin and Peter Holiday starting the Solstice walk in Lichfield
This years Solstice walk this year raised an estimated £150,000 for the Whittington based charity which provides hospice care for those around the midlands area including Tamworth.
In what was described as magical a scene, 1,500 women descended on the cathedral city, Lichfield, and walked through the streets dressed with fairy wings and wands, all to raise money for St Giles Hospice.
At 10pm on Saturday night, special guest, Jo Malin and St Giles Chief Executive at St Giles Hospice, set walkers off on the 9 mile course. The event though wasn’t just about the raising of much needed money, but also about remembering those close to the walkers. Whilst walking the course walkers released hundreds of balloons in memory of those that hey had lost.
Peter Holiday, CEO of St Giles Hospice said of the walk:
“The Solstice Walk has grown to become a highlight of our fundraising calendar because it is enjoyed by so many women, who are helping us to raise a fantastic amount once again.
“We wish to thank all those who took part this year, their generous sponsors, and all the volunteers and marshals who gave up their time to help out on the night.
“With their help we have just held the biggest single fundraising event in the history of St Giles Hospice, and every penny raised will make a difference to the services we can provide.”
The Solstice walk was supported by Sainsburys Hams Hall and Aqua Direct who provided refreshments for the walkers of the nine mile course, Friary Grange Leisure Centre and St Johns Ambulance for their continued support.
