Tamworth Burglar Bar

commsafetylogoNo we aren’t talking McDonalds again, instead the thieves who prey on empty homes.

Tamworths Community Safety Partnership have setup the “Burglar Bar” in an empty shop in Ankerside Shopping Centre, with the hope of reducing the number of burglaries during the summer months.

During the summer months burglaries are more prevalent simply because we have doors and windows open.  Dave Fern, Community Safety Manager said;

“The Tamworth Burglar Bar will show the public what makes a “Burglars’ Dream”. . .a heady mix of unlocked doors, open windows and items on show.

“Insecure burglaries remain high across Tamworth, and there are simple steps that residents can take to avoid being the victim of crime. Simple things like remembering to lock your back door and don’t leave windows open when you leave the house. These simple steps can avoid the heart ache and inconvenience of losing your most valuable possessions. Most thieves are looking for an opportunity, and it is down to us to make sure that we do not give them one.”

There will be a window display running in Ankerside in the unit that was formerly the Works, from now until July 11 with an open day on 7 July (Tuesday) where members of the public will be able to talk to agencies direct and get advice and information about how not to be an easy target for burglars.

All change at McDonalds Drive Thru at Ventura Park

Ventura Park is a hive of activity at the moment with the popular McDonalds Drive Thru currently closed for a complete refurbishment.

The restaurant which for the past year has been opperating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is seeing itself completly rebuilt.  Already visible is the new car park layout and an extension to the kitchen area.

The work has been ongoing for two weeks now and those who require their fast food fix at 2am are having to resort to Asda for their fix.

One thing that has struck me though is that McDonalds had the opportunity to create a new exit, reducing congestion from the Jolly Sailor park, but for whatever reason traffic is still coming in and out the original entrance and exit.

Arriva cancel the X74 Birmingham express service

Arriva buses have cancelled the express X74 service between Tamworth and Birmingham.  The former service which used the motorway for a quick connection for commuters and shoppers.

The removal of the X74 service means that commuters wishing to travel to Birmingham on the bus now have to take the slower services through Sutton Coldfield (110) or through Kingsbury (116).  Limiting users to 4 buses per hour between Tamworth and the second city.

Arriva customer services response to our query about the cancellation said;

“The x74 service was removed due to a lack of patronage and funding as we were to receive no additional from the local authority as it was not commercially viable to  continue to operate this route.”
