Lloyds No. 1 to open in place of Chicago Rock Cafe
Chicago Rock Cafe in Tamworth is due to close after this weekend (4-5 July), to re-open at the end of the summer as a new Lloyds No.1 Bar.
Lloyds No.1, which is operated by JD Wetherspoons will see the current bar refurbished and re-opened with the new image.
Chicago Rock Cafe which has been in Tamworth for several years will leave behind many memories, but the owners have decided to close it during a cost saving exercise throughout the country. The popular bar will leave many people looking for alternative nights out till Lloyds No.1 opens.
Walk for our heroes
On Saturday 11th July walkers will be able to take part in a sponsored walk through the Staffordshire Country side.
Walkers can choose from 5, 10, 20 or 30 miles with staggered start times from 7.30am. Registration for this event is £5.
Organisers are looking for clubs, companies and individuals to walk, cycle (cycling clubs only) or run, to raise money for our wounded soldiers.
The walk will talk place along the Trent tow-path and there will be various fun days hosted by pubs along the way.
At the finish there will be a BBQ- fund raiser – with stalls and beers.
Olympic Gold medalist Lee Pearson CBE (event patron) will start the walk joined by major Phil Packer, who suffered a spinal injury in Iraq 2008. Phil also bravely completed 2009 London’s marathon.

Man air lifted to hospital after fall from bridge

Air Ambulance
A man was air lifted to Selly Oak Hospital after falling from a bridge over a disused railway line just after 2am this morning (Saturday 4 July).
The man who had fallen of a bridge in a field along the Ashby Road was immobilised on a spinal board after falling 25 feet from the bridge was rescued by the West Midlands Ambulance Services Hazardous Area Response team.
A spokesperson for the Ambulance service said:
“We were called to reports of a man having fallen approximately 25 feet from a railway bridge along a disused line and an ambulance crew was sent. Although the nearest location given was Ashby Road , Tamworth , the patient was actually two fields from the road. Therefore the West Midlands Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team and a police helicopter were deployed.
“The patient, a man in his twenties, was found with head and leg injuries. He was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was flown to Selly Oak Hospital . One of the paramedics from the Hazardous Area Response team accompanied the patient en route to the hospital.”
