New Domestic Violence Campaign launched

commsafetylogoTamworth Community Safety Partnership have launched a new campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence and the support available to the victims and hope the message will stick.

The new campaign being spearheaded Tamworth Borough Council’s new Domestic Violence Co-ordinator, Marcella Forrest will see Street Wardens and PCSO’s placing stickers throughout the town.  The stickers, displaying a helpline number can be found in high profile locations like changing rooms in stores, toilets, car parks and community venues.  Some of the towns high profile stores have already signed including Asda and Ankerside Shopping Centre.

Marcella Foster said:

“The campaign is timed to support what is historically a peak time for domestic violence incidents”, said Marcella. “Our aim is to provide a clear message that Domestic Abuse can affect both men and women of all walks of life, and to promote of the support services available.

“On average one in four women and one in six men will be victims of domestic violence in their life time and it’s estimated that an incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute.

“There are several services running locally including the Pathways project and Victim Support. These provide support to both female and male victims of any kind of domestic abuse. Our message for anyone experiencing abuse is to pick up the phone, talk to one of these services and get valuable support and advice”.

As part of Tamworth Castles consultation stage for the Heritage Lottery Bid, residents of Tamworth are being asked for their opinions on the towns medieval structure.

Castle staff will in and around the town centre in the coming weeks gathering the views of local residents on the castle, the bid the Heritage Lottery Fund and the castles conservation.

The staff will be located by the Town Hall and within the Castle Grounds on every Tuesday and Saturday throughout August, starting on the 4th. As part of the consultation, there will also be a display on Tamworth Castle, including an outline of the Castle’s achievements, details of everything they offer and what they plan to develop with Heritage Lottery Funding. Staff will also be speaking to visitors about their general views of the Castle, so if you have ever had any ideas on what you would like to see at Tamworth Castle then this is your chance.

This is a great opportunity for the people of Tamworth to have a say in Tamworth’s centre piece.  If you’re unable to attend one of the day events, you can go tot he castle at any time and fill in a special questionnaire.
