GEDC0052This weekend is the seventh weekend of the Let’s Go Outside programme organised by Tamworth Borough Council. The Let’s Go Outside programme is a series of event in the town centre at the weekend.

The event, which is sponsored by Ankerside Shopping Centre extends the traditional bandstand programme to incorporate the canopy and Castle Grounds. Events throughout the summer include Orienteering, Salsa Dances, and much much more.

This weeks events include Driven Like the Snow and the Leicestershire Coop Band, all playing the bandstand.

Saturday 22nd August: Second Time Around 1 – 4pm – Canopy

Mike and Kaz originally met in 1978, when they were an item for about a year, but it has taken until 2005 to get together as a musical duo (and, come to that, an item once more). Mike has had considerable experience of both solo and band work, while Kaz only started singing in public in 2005. They regularly play on open mic nights at the Waterfront in Kingsbury.

Saturday 22nd August: Lloyd Scarsbrook 1 – 4pm – Bandstand

Tamworth’s own Lloyd Scarsbrook performs a varied repertoire of swing standards, smooth Jazz, contemporary classics and songs from the shows in an afternoon of piano and voice.

Sunday 23rd August: Walton Orienteering Club – Castle Grounds

Come and learn orienteering skills with the Walton Orienteering Club. The group are offering a short beginner orienteering course in the Castle Grounds and then planning a longer “score” event for the more experienced. In a score event you have an hour to visit as many control points as you can, in any order. You get to choose your own route so you don’t have a large pack of people running about.

Walton Orienteering Club are affiliated to the British Orienteering Federation and our events are covered by public liability insurance.

Sunday 23rd August: Bulkington Silver 1 – 4pm – Bandstand

Bulkington Silver Band is on of the oldest in Britain being formed in 1848.

They firmly believe in teching people of all ages to play a musical instrument. The band supports the Mary Ann Hospice Charity and is regularly engaged for concerts, fetes, marriages, entertainment in residential homes and for shoppers at Christmas.
