Tamworth Residents Urged to Stay Safe this Bonfire Night

Tamworth residents are being urged to stay safe with Bonfire night parties taking place across the town this weekend and next.
West Midlands Ambulance Service are bracing themselves for a busy two weeks due to firework related injuries from people forgetting the simple Firework Code. They are urging people to remember that whilst the parties can be fun and the fireworks and bonfires entertaining, they can also be life changing if misused
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said
“Unfortunately despite warnings issued at this time of year about bonfire/firework safety, our crews are sadly all too familiar with people who have injured themselves in such incidents.
“Last year crews dealt with numerous incidents including hand injuries caused to people who were holding fireworks when they exploded, burns from bonfires after simple slips and trips, to the more extreme cases where members the public used petrol or other accelerants on bonfires; resulting in the fire flashing back and causing serious burns, which can scar for life.”
It isn’t only you that can get injured through the misuse of fireworks. Ambulance crews last years reported that they were having fireworks thrown at their vehicle whilst taking a patient to a hospital. Throwing fireworks isn’t only dangerous to those you are throwing the fireworks at, but also yourself.
The spokesperson continued:
“An ambulance crew last year even reported having fireworks thrown at their vehicle whilst en route to hospital. Throwing fireworks is extremely dangerous and can cause serious injuries, luckily in this instance no one was injured and no damage was caused to the vehicle allowing them to safely continue their journey.”
The firework code can be found below:- (more…)
Stay safe this Halloween

This weekend could be a busy one, not only is it Halloween, but we are also a few days away from Bonfire night. Whilst many people enjoy the Halloween festivities, Tamworth residents are being urged by West Midlands Ambulance Service to be careful on the dark roads over the weekend as you and your children are ‘Trick or Treating’.
They appeal that when you are out in the evening that if possible to wear bright or refletive clothing that will allow drivers to spot you on the dark roads and ensure that you cross the road in well lit areas avoiding parked cars which may hide you.
It isn’t only the safety of children and parents we should think about though, many elderly people are nervous about opening the door to large groups of people. If they don’t answer the door, accept their wishes and leave them be.
