Over 500 people from across the Midlands completed the five-mile Walk to Cure Diabetes at Drayton Manor Theme Park on Sunday October 4, raising money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The walk attracted people ranging from children, parents and grandparents as well as employees from various companies and businesses in the area.  Money collected on the day is still being counted but organisers believe the total will be closer to £100,000.

Drayton Manor Park has been supporting JDRF for the last few years with Managing Director, Colin Bryan, taking the role of chairman of the walk for the 2nd year, spearheading the campaign to raise awareness and funds.

Colin Bryan said:

“Sunday’s event was a great success and one which would not have been possible without such a fabulous turnout from all the dedicated walkers who took part.

“Everyone who participated, as well as those who sponsored them, has played an important role in aiding JDRF continue its vital research into finding the cure for this condition and I thank you whole-heartedly for your efforts.”

After the event, Colin Bryan invited all walkers into the theme park free of charge to enjoy the zoo and rides Drayton Manor have to offer.

Joe Nunn, Regional Development Manager for JDRF in the West Midlands said:

“A massive thank you to everyone who came along to the Walk and did their bit to help find the cure for type 1 diabetes. We all had a fantastic time and luckily, the sun shone in Tamworth! There was a fantastic sense of camaraderie amongst everyone who took part and we are delighted that so much has been raised to help fund more research.

“We also would like to take this opportunity to thank Drayton Manor Theme Park for helping us stage this event and making it such a success. I’m sure next year’s Walk will be bigger still.”
