Asda Tamworth
Asda Tamworth has become South Staffordshire Primary Care Trusts latest Antiviral Collection Point for Swine flu treatments.
Patients in Tamworth who are diagnosed with Swine Flu in Tamworth may find their medication being made at Asda Tamworth on Ventura Park.
John Wicks, Flu Director for South Staffordshire PCT said:
“As we enter the flu season we continue to monitor our response to Swine Flu cases and feel that it is appropriate to ensure that centres are accessible across the South Staffordshire area.
“We would urge patients to ask a relative, neighbour of friend to be their ‘flu friend’ – someone who would collect medication from the ACP on their behalf.
“For most swine flu is a mild illness and people should start to feel better after a few days without needing to visit your GP or A&E department.”
It is stressed though that if you are diagnosed to have Swine Flu that you should first contact the Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513 or the National Flu Service on 0800 1 513 100. The National Flu Service will ascertain if you have Swine Flu, if you do they will issue with a number that a “Flu Friend” can use to pick up your treatment. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE SWINE FLU YOU SHOULD STAY AT HOME.
The new Antiviral collection Point at Asda is open 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday

Ventura park … Well we wouldn’t want it in Tamworth town centre where it’s easy for the majority of people to get to would we, no let’s put with all of the out of town shopping sheds near Fazeley.
Ventura Park is easy to get to by car or on foot from the town or you can wait for the new £75 million shopping centre in town?
It depends if you own a car, have access to a car or live near to the place … I remember when I lived in another part of Tamworth and the architects/planners hadn’t even put footpaths in, people had to walk in the road.
On the one hand we have the council pretending to be environmentally aware, and asking us to recycle everything, then on the other hand organisations wanting everyone to drive everywhere … I bet ASDA are happy they get even more shoppers, Tesco just announced 3 billion pounds profit, and I bet ASDA are similar … Swine flu being used as a profit maker.
But then again you couldn’t collect it from the hospital, because Tamworth doesn’t have a hospital.
Nowt wrong with walking in’t road lad, no footpaths or electric light when I was a lad. Tamworth has a good hospital at Mile Oak.
There are other AVP’s in Tamworth, this is an additional one and one that could be considered handier for people to get too. Go for a pint of milk and get your mates treatment
There is some interesting data suggesting that keeping your vitamin D level optimal will prevent colds, flu and in particular H1N1 (swine Flu). The Canadians are taking the data very seriously and starting studies to see if Vitamin D can prevent Flu
