Warning for Wilnecote Lane Drivers

A large pothole has been reported on Wilnecote Lane in Belgrave.  Whilst potholes aren’t uncommon in Tamworth, this one is a beast measuring some 18 inches by 12 inches and about 6 inches deep.  Buses are reportedly slowing down to avoid damaging the vehicle.

Rewind @ Kube – Photos from Poppy Fields Appeal Night

The Rewind Flyer - Kube Friday November 13

The Rewind Flyer - Kube Friday November 13

Friday November 13 saw Kube Nightclub reopen it’s doors for one night only to over 18’s for a throw back to the 80’s and 90’s all in aid of the Poppy Fields Appeal, raising money for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The fact it was an 80’s and 90’s “Rewind”, plenty of people made the effort to get into the spirit with weird and wacky costumes ranging from Adam and the Ants through to a Rubix Kube (actually just writing that, that’s a clever outfit on many levels).  As well as being transported back two decades, Tamworth’s own Street Dynamix and Niki Evans performed to the sell out crowd.

Partying the night away to tunes being spun by a host of Kube DJ’s from the past, the night was branded a success with Lisa Guilder already thinking about doing something similar next year.  Lisa said:

“Thank you so much everyone for supporting us last night!  We had an amazing time.  The total raised was around £5,000.  That’s took our overall total to £102,000.  Fantastic!.

“It was great to see so many people having so much fun.  we though John Hill and fellow DJs were fab as were Niki Evans and Street Dynamix.  We are so grateful to everyone at Kube for making it possible.  Hope we can do it again next year.”

It was great to see Kube reopen to us oldies after so many years.  The music was great as was the atmosphere.  A great event for a very worthy cause.

Tamworth Blog went along to show our support and we took our camera along and captured some of the night.  The photos are below… Did you make the show?

Tamworth Train Station to Receive Facelift

Tamworth Train Station

Tamworth Train Station

Tamworth Train Station has been listed as one of the stations National Rail plan to improve between now and 2014.

National Rail have announced a massive £3.25bn investment on stations nationwide with Tamworth on the list to receive a facelift in the future.

Whilst at this moment it is unclear exactly what work will be carried out on our station, although we have been told it will be significant investment.

The main improvements that Network Rail are looking at doing as part of this upgrade include:

  • New passenger information systems
  • New lifts and stairways
  • New toilets, waiting rooms and shelters
  • New, longer or resurfaced platforms
  • Bigger or refurbished ticket offices and ticket halls
  • Better lighting and CCTV
  • Smarter stations – redecoration, more seating and retail opportunities

Network Rail are looking to railway customers to help them with what needs to be carried out at their Stations. Robin Gisby, operations and customer service director at Network Rail, said:

“Stations are the railways’ shop-front and they have been ignored for too long. With the punctuality of the railways now running at record levels and our major programme to boost capacity and provide more seats on trains underway, we can now look at other priorities and stations are at the top of the list.

“Much is planned in this area over the coming years and we must invest wisely. We shouldn’t try and second guess passengers but ask them what they want from stations and what’s important to them. We need to listen to passengers and use their views on stations to guide our decisions.”

As part of their Action Stations they will issue a series of questionnaires about how stations can be improved and give you the opportunity to win a Train Season Ticket.  The flyer for Action Stations can be downloaded from here (pdf) and you can also visit their website at www.networkrail.co.uk/actionstations.

We will keep you up to date with the proposed changes to Tamworth Railway Station.
