Speeding Drivers an Issue at Anker Valley Pitches

A concerned Amington resident has expressed his concern via the FixMyStreet website at speeding drivers making their way to the Anker Valley Football pitches on a match day.

The concerned resident has highlighted the volume of traffic and speed at which the drivers are taking the Old Tamworth road, with many ‘flying’ over the bridge and ignoring the sign posts to the pitches. The resident has claimed to have been nearly knocked over several times.

Their post on FixMyStreet says:

On match days the volume of traffic going down Old Tamworth Road is horrendous and can be unsafe due to the speed the vehicles go at.They fly over the bridge to get to Anker Valley football pitches. There is a sign at the bridge directing them to go down Brindley Road to access the pitches but they do not. Some of them are even using mobile phones.I have nearly been knocked over a few times due to this.Their is also no footpath on oneside of the road so some residents exit the homes straight onto the road with oncoming traffic.

The Monday morning commute was made more difficult for those using the M42 this morning, Monday November 30, after a lane was closed causing slow traffic and delays northbound between Junction 9 Curdworth and Junction 10 at Tamworth.

Delays were caused by an accident between a car and a lorry.  The recovery work required the closure of the lane and resulted in the subsequent delays.  The motorway is now fully open.

Tamworth Green’s Shocked by Councillors Attitude

The Tamworth Greens (Green Party) have expressed shock after a Tamworth Councillor said he didn’t believe in ‘Climate Change’.

The claims were made by a longstanding councillor whilst the Tamworth Green’s were manning a public stand in the town centre last weekend (Saturday November 21). The veteran councillor told the Green’s that it was all natural and nothing to do with people.

Garry Jones from the Tamworth Green’s said:

“I’m not sure what is more concerning about this; that some Tamworth tories think they know better than thousands of highly qualified climate scientists or the absence of any responsibility for looking after the environment. Climate Change is the biggest threat to humanity let alone individuals in Tamworth. The freak weather events of the last week should be a stark wakeup call to the people of Tamworth; a town with two major rivers running through it! What I’d like to know is if this view is more widely shared by the Tamworth Conservative party and if not, what are they doing about Climate Change?”

The Green Party, if elected in Tamworth would like to make Tamworth a low carbon town, working closely with the Environment Agency to ensure that we don’t see floods like those seen across the country the last fortnight as well as improving the towns energy efficiency and reducing bills.
