Officers from Staffordshire Police were handed a suspect package at approximately 4.30pm yesterday (Monday) by a member of the public in Tamworth.
The package had been found in Glascote Road and was taken to the police station in Spinning School Lane.
The police station was cordoned off while the package was examined and deemed safe. No member of the public was at risk at any time and the station was re-opened last night.
Officers have also cordoned off an area in Glascote Road while further searches are carried out this morning (Tues) to ensure the safety of the public and gather evidence from the scene.
A 27-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Tamworth, were arrested last night in connection with the incident. They remained in custody overnight and will be questioned today.
Inspector Emma Griffiths, from Tamworth police, said:
“We’d like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience and co-operation while we investigate this unusual incident.
“Enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal for anyone with information to contact Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455, quoting incident number 472 of February 1, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”

Surely if somebody wanted to blow somewhere up, they’d pick a slightly better location than a petrol station, maybe an oil refinery? It is all just blatant paranoia, people didn’t panic like this for the IRA and they shouldn’t panic now.
I agree, and the latest terrorist scare stories are designed by governments to keep its citizens under control by the use of fear.
And of course, as has come out in the Iraq war inquiry, we wouldn’t even have this level of terrorist threat if a couple of war criminals hadn’t decided to invade Iraq.
Is this got something to do with all the goings on in greenheart, amington? Because the police have been here since 3am sunday morning and still havent gone.
I don’t think this was something dreamed up by the government to keep us under control.. Why on earth would they pick Tamworth?
All this was strange anyway. As I a couple weeks ago, spoke to one of the ladies working at the garage. Saying 2-3 younger people were sneaking around outside and inside, like they were planning something….wonder if its got any connection.
I thought a robbery had happened, and was a bit shocked when driving past monday night after work..
But no matter what. We cant feel safe anywhere, there are crazy people everywhere in the world
And yes off course it seems like panic situation, but you never know in the world we live in today, even in a city like Tamworth
Warren, I wasn’t referring to this specific indecent, I was replying to Stuart Wootton’s comment “It is all just blatant paranoia, people didn’t panic like this for the IRA and they shouldn’t panic now”.
And his statement is absolutely true, If you watch the BBC2 documentary ‘The Power of Nightmares’, you soon realise how the government manipulates our fears to keep us in check.
Remember the armoured cars and tanks outside one of the London airports, because the government said ’some’ terrorists had a surface to air missile and were going to shoot down a plane?
How is a tank going to stop a surface to air missile?, and what happened to this hyped up threat? It was simply propaganda to try and justify an illegal war and state sponsored mass murder.
i was in one of those tanks at heathrow. back in the 90’s we used to deploy to heathrow on a regular basis to support the airport police when threats had been made against el al airlines from isreal. the standard response to any threat at heathrow (or gatwick) was a troop of armoured vehicles and a number of infantry. the armoured vehicles obviously were there for show of force and hence a deterrent. unfortunately in this instance the dust was blown off the instructions for action required for threat at heathrow and we were deployed before anyone realised it was no longer effective.
