Tamworth is to play host to the The Great Education Debate on Thursday 11 March 2010, giving the people of Tamworth a platform to ask questions about what is best for the children of Tamworth.
With a general election looming there is a renewed debate about what is best for our schools, with Tamworth being used as a test area for the new academy system the Government are proposing.
Are Free Schools or Academies the way to improve the childrens education in Tamworth? With Landau Forte set to open a post 16 education centre in Tamworth at Woodhouse School, makes Tamworth a good area for debate.
There are arguments both for and against the proposals in Tamworth, arguments against have led to protests across the Tamworth area about the Landau Forte proposals.
The debate will take place on Thursday March 11 at 7pm at the Tamworth Assembly Rooms, speakers include:
Ally Bird – Former Tamworth School Pupil
Jenny Pinkett - Lib Dem Candidate for Tamworth
Alasdair Smith – Anti Acadamies Alliance
The debate will be hosted by the Anti-academies Alliance.
One Response on The Great Education Debate – Have your say on the future of Education
So the ‘Hands Off Tamworth Schools’ group has rebranded with an attempt at softening their hard line look.
Interesting the timing of this with an election looming.
What concerns me is that this ‘new’ group cliams to be inclusive etc etc yet appears to be so against the changes to improve our kids education. Their website is full of hate towards the changes.
Thie big debate next Thursday looks exciting though. One failed lib dem candidate who made a real impact in Tamworth and a couple of nobodies as speakers. Where are the Conservatives & Labour politicians?
Come on HOTS/TEA why not work with the Council, parents etc. to make the very best of the changes rather than be so against them? You really cannot see further than the noses at the end of your faces.
