Heroes & Villains at Poppy Fields Annual Ball

A ball held at Drayton Manor Park raised a staggering £6,000 for the Poppy Fields Appeal last night (Saturday March 27 2010).  The Heroes and Villains themed ball saw guests turn up in fancy dress as Heroes or Villains.

The annual event that is organised by the Poppy Fields charity raises money for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, after 7 year old Poppy was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2004, by her parents.  This year marked it’s 5th year and proved as successful, even with the numbers down.

Everyone who attended dressed as either a hero or a villain and all purchased tickets to the event and donated money throughout the night, helping the event raise a staggering £6,000 for the Poppy Fields charity.

The event saw the total money raised for Birmingham Children’s Hospital top the £106,000 figure, with Lisa and Brian keen to continue the fund raising into 2010, even with a little brother/sister on there way for Poppy.

Poppy Singing for her dad

The Ball coincided with Poppy’s dads 40th Birthday, and a special surprise was recorded by Poppy, to honour her dad’s occasion.  She recorded a special version of Miley Cyrus’s track, “Butterfly Fly Away”.  To top it off, Poppy made a guest appearance (much to her dad’s surprise) and bravely sang “The Climb” in front of the 200 strong crowd, all after giving her dad a hug of course.  Bringing the house down in a sea of soggy tissues.

Poppy is still undergoing treatment following her diagnosis six years ago, but strongly carrying on her journey as she always has.  Still regularly visiting Birmingham Children’s Hospital who have treated her since her diagnosis.

They will be presenting their next cheque for a phenomenal £26,000 to Birmingham Children’s Hospital on April 8th.  Speaking of the presentation, Lisa, Poppys mum said:

“We will be presenting a cheque for a phenomenal £26,000. We will also be celebrating the fact that we have passed the £100,000 mark. We have been able to ask a few of the people who have helped to raise this incredible amount, we wish we could have all of you there, and our friends & family too, but there isn’t the room to fit you all in!! But to all of those have supported us over the last 6 years – THANK YOU for making this happen!!”

They’ll be taking a back seat from fund raising when Poppy’s sister arrives, but plans are already a foot for further fund-raising throughout 2010.  Keep your eyes on Tamworth Blog or the Facebook group in how you can help and make a difference.
