Two areas of Tamworth have received a spring makeover as part of a Tamworth Borough Council backed initiative, seeing over a 40 young volunteers and 15 adult helpers cleaning up the Ludgate and Leyfields areas.
April 8th saw the youngsters and helpers collected litter, cleaned up graffiti, weeding and giving planters a lick of paint in and around Leyfields. Whilst the Ludgate bridge in receieved a mini makeover with graffiti being removed and litter picked.
Organised by the Street Wardens and Coton Christian Society, volunteers collected more than 24 bags of litter and worked their way through 100 pairs of gloves and three tubs of graffiti wipes and silver and black paint.
This is one of many of the cleanup events that have been arranged for Tamworth in the last couple of weeks with 20 bags of litter being collected in Stonydelph and Sycamore recently.
Pete Layton, Tamworth Borough Council’s Head Street Warden, said:
“I want to say a really big ‘thank you’ to everyone who turned out and took part, particularly the young people. All the street wardens are very proud to have been part of this event, which was an outstanding example of what the majority of young people in Tamworth are really like.”
This makeover is all part of the national Big Tidy Up, which is a national scheme looking to clean up the UK. More details can be found at www.thebigtidyup.org.
