A 21 year old man, who robbed Tamworth Town Centres Subway take-away has been jailed for 16 months.
Police welcomed the sentencing of Damien Coakley, of Beyer Close, Tamworth, who threatened the staff at the town’s Subway sandwich bar before grabbing nearly £150 from the till.
Judge Simon Tonking, who jailed Coakley for 16-months, said during the hearing at Stafford Crown Court:
“You committed this offence just a week after your release from custody.
“It is clear from the closed curcuit television (CCTV) that you were aggressive. There can be no doubt that the offence is so serious that custody is inevitable. I am not satisfied you are ready yet to respond to punishment in the community.”
Mr Coakley admitted to the robbery at the sandwich shop in George Street, Tamworth on 8 January this year.
Sgt Richard Nightingale of Tamworth police said:
“Staff and companies providing a valuable community service should not have to put up with this kind of aggressive and threatening behaviour.
“I hope the prison sentence will serve as a warning to anyone considering committing such a serious offence.”
