The two males arrested regarding the suspect package found in Tamworth on Monday have been charged.

Jonathan Cunningham (dob 27/7/82) of Greenheart, Tamworth, and a 16-year-old boy from Tamworth have both been charged with possessing an explosive substance in suspicious circumstances.

They remain in police custody and are due to appear before magistrates in Tamworth this morning (Wed).

Inspector Emma Griffiths, from Tamworth police, said:

“We’d like to re-iterate our thanks to local residents and business for their patience and co-operation. Incidents like this are extremely rare but we’d always encourage anyone who witnesses anything suspicious to contact Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

A stray pig has caused tail-backs on the A51 between Hopwas and Whittington after it escaped from the Packington Farm where they are bred.

The incident at about 2.15pm on Friday November 13 saw traffic bought to a halt whilst concerned motorists tried to usher the pig back into his field.

In true style though the pig was happy running them around until a member of staff from the farm came to the rescue of the porker.

A collection of people including a businessman and two ambulance crew members attempted to help the pig.

Last night (Wednesday November 11) at approximately 8.25pm there was an incident on Church Lane in Middleton (click for map) involving two cars.

Three ambulances, two rapid response vehicles, a paramedic officer and a doctor were sent to the scene where they found one of the vehicles of the road in a group of trees.

Involved in the incident was a 21 year old male who suffered serious head, chest and abdominal injuries who was trapped in the car when crews arrived at the scene.  The male was taken to Heartlands Hospital under blue lights.

Two women were also involved suffered pelvic injuries and were taken to Good Hope Hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

“When crews arrived they found one car that had crossed a grass verge and ended up in a copse of trees.

“There was one man trapped in that vehicle. The 21-year-old had head, chest and abdominal injuries.

“He was taken on blue lights to Heartlands Hospital; the doctor travelled with him given the serious nature of his condition.

“There were two women who were already out of the vehicles.

“They were both taken to Good Hope Hospital with pelvic injuries but these were less serious.”

Monday (October 26) mornings rush hour saw the Midlands Air Ambulance land on the Lichfield Road after being called to an incident at a Lichfield Road business after a man believed to be in his 40’s fell approximately 12 feet to the floor.

A Rapid Response Vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance attended the scene, where the man was treated for his injuries before being air lifted to Heartlands Hospital.

The man was treated on the scene for Back and Abdominal pain before being transferred to hospital.  There is no further news at this time on his condition.

Following on from yesterdays (Sunday August 2) Breaking News about an incident on the West Coast Mainline running through Tamworth, more information has been released by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The Ambulance service dispatched an Ambulance, a Rapid Response Car and the Air Ambulance to Coton Lane in Tamworth shortly after 6pm.  Unfortunately the paramedics were unable to save the mans life.  A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said:

“Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

At the moment it is unclear how the man got on the railway.

This incident caused delays on the West Coast Mainline until 11pm last night, seeing Virgin Trains being diverted via Birmingham and London Midland services suffering lengthy delays.  The line was fully reopened late last night.
