Inside the Silk Kite – Tamworth Blogs review

The Silk Kite, Tamworth
Tamworth Blog have been down to The Silk Kite, the new Lloyds No.1 Bar in Tamworth. Replacing the Chicago Rock Cafe, The Silk Kite takes the number of JD Wetherspoon run bars in the town centre to two.
Slightly different to The Bolebridge, The Silk Kite is one of the Lloyds No.1 branded bars, the main difference being the later opening and music.
Having been in now both during the day and at night over the weekend, the main feeling of change can be felt during the day. Before when it was Chicago Rock Cafe, going in during the day never appealed to me, but now it is a Wetherspoons run bar, for some reason it seems more acceptable to go in and have a cup of coffee and in my case check some emails and do some work, (although at the moment the WiFi isn’t in, but this is coming I am assured).
Wetherspoons have spent just short of £500,000 on the refurbishment and the decor is classic and stylish. Plenty of tables and booths for sitting down and enjoying a drink and a meal. Around the bar you will find snippets of the buildings past, the names story and snippets of Tamworth’s modern day history, the story of the Reliant motor company caught my eye. Photos from the interior can be found below or in our FlickR album.
During the day, as with other Wetherspoons, they offer a full menu which runs through to 10pm. They even place extra tables and chairs on the dancefloor. The usual drink suspects are on tap, with Carlsberg pints starting at £1.99 (the price goes up a little during the weekend it appears). The prices as some patrons noticed are slightly more expensive than at the Bolebridge, but this increase is due to the different license and brand of bar. Obviously the main difference you will noticed is that their is music in the background. On Friday and Saturday nights the bar turns into a late night venue with a live DJ.
Speaking to some of the customers drinking in The Silk Kite, the new bar was welcome. Many of whom have drunk in The Bolebridge for years are exploring the new offering in the town. Speaking to one drinker he said:
“It’s nice what they’ve done with the place isn’t it.”
The Silk Kite is open 9am till midnight Monday to Wednesday, 9am till 1am on Thursdays and Sundays and 9am till 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
